Hunger Action Day at the Market

As we enjoy the abundant harvest available each week at the Brighton Farmers’ Market, it’s easy to forget that many people in our community and beyond don’t have enough to eat. Hunger is a huge problem in our country, and it’s only getting worse. Last year, 14.5% of American households experienced food insecurity, up from 11% just 10 years ago. This week we welcome partner organizations Foodlink and the Brighton Food Cupboard to the Market; they will offer information about the need locally, their efforts to fight hunger, and how we can help. Over the past three months, the number of families served by the Brighton Food Cupboard rose from an average of 600 per month to between 700 and 800 families per month. Please consider donating; the Food Cupboard’s greatest need right now is fresh produce, healthy snack items, and canned vegetables; cash is always welcome. Thank you.
