Growing Practices

According to Ann, “This is a small scale, intensively planted farm which uses only environmentally sustainable practices.  Although not certified organic, everything is grown using absolutely no chemical fertilizers or pesticides.  Row cover is used to control pests along with hand picking.  Weeds are controlled with various mulches, mowing, flame weeding, hoeing/tilling and hand weeding.  Crops are rotated so as not to deplete the soil, and cover crops are planted when possible.  Composted manure, organic compost and soybean meal are used to build soil nutrients.  Potted plants are fed bone meal and seaweed fertilizers.  Any diseased plants are immediately removed and destroyed.”
