This summer’s rains have drenched our upstate landscape a deep glowing green. The farmers report that the cool temperatures have stalled the crops, but you wouldn’t be able to tell from the tables piled high at the Brighton Farmers’ Market. Lettuce, kale, beets, carrots, onion, new potatoes, zucchini, garlic, and all kinds of peas — sugar snap, shelling, and snow peas — have arrived. The strawberry harvest was unusually long, and now raspberries, cherries, and currants are being harvested. The blueberries are beautiful, and farmers expect a bountiful crop this year.  Warmer days will encourage the tomatoes and other heat-loving crops to ripen, and they should start arriving at the market shortly.
