Feeling better? A spring in your step? Maybe that expression refers to the season, not the bounce. Our farmers are stepping springily, but that’s because they’re making up for time lost to this past….(fill in the blank).  Not even going to mention the “w” word today.

This week at the Market

This Sunday, April 13, Happy Hooves Organic Farm is bringing certified organic, no-soy fresh Cornish game hens; a large assortment of pasture-raised, no-soy certified organic pork cuts; 100% grass-fed and finished new beef and some “on sale” beef; whole certified organic no-soy truly free-ranging chickens, and certified organic no-soy eggs from hens who are also very happy that spring has finally arrived.  Fellenz Family Farm is bringing honey and certified organic potatoes (Keuka Gold and Salem), eggs, and container herbs.

Le Petit Poutine will have traditional, vegetarian, breakfast, and bacon poutine, s’more bites, lemon bars, and two sodas — lemon lavender and ginger. Fisher Hill Farm will have fresh chicken, rutabaga, carrots, parsnips, potatoes, onions, shallots, dry beans, and Red Jacket juices. Bolton Farms will have lettuce bouquets, spring mix, Butterhead Bibb lettuce, cilantro, parsley, kale, arugula, tatsoi, bok choi, watercress, escarole, and spinach.

Shannon Brook Farm is featuring loin pork chops, tasty with shallots and a balsamic glaze. Nordic Farm will have brown eggs fresh from the farm, jams, pickles, salsa, relish applesauce, granola, granola bars, and English walnuts from the shores of Keuka Lake. JonJohn’s Bakery will have ham dinner with macaroni and cheese and fresh rolls, peach cobbler, and decadent chocolate brownies with toasted pecans.

Allens Hill Farm is bringing aquaponically grown lemon and genovese basil, bok choi, and Swiss chard, and free-range chicken eggs from hens fed fodder in the morning. Seaway Trail Honey will have spring honey, a range of seasonal honey, and mini honey bears for Easter baskets; all the honey is certified Kosher for Passover.

Newbury Park Pastries will have chicken, veggie, and panang veggie pot pies. Clearview Farm is bringing free-range, organically-fed hen and goose eggs; purple-top turnips with recipes; burdock root, also with recipes; eshallions; pinto, black, and red kidney beans; dried herbs; and fresh parsley. Wohlschlegel’s Naples Maple Farm is bringing an assortment of several maple products for Easter baskets or for glazing the Easter ham. Brian’s Kitchen is bringing an assortment of cookies.

Brighton Winter Farmers’ Market is held Sundays, 1 to 4 pm, through May 18, 2014 (closed Easter Sunday, April 20).  It is located in Brighton’s Brookside Center, 220 Idlewood Road, Rochester. There is a second entrance to the building, easily accessible, from S. Winton, between Westfall and 590 (just south of Westfall).

The summer Brighton Farmers’ Market opens May 25; it will be held Sundays from 9 am to 1 pm in the Brighton High School parking lot, 1150 Winton Road S.
