Summer Blooms

Summer is in full bloom at Brighton Farmers’ Market, and there will be lots of colorful flowers and bouquets available at the Market this week, July 20, to brighten your home or cheer a friend. Chicory Blue Garden will have lovely bouquets with a wide variety of blooms. Shady Lane Farm is bringing fresh-cut summer flowers, including sweet little nosegays, as well as red mini-cabbages, new Yukon gold and red potatoes, purple onions, beets, sugar snap and shell peas, chard, zucchini and yellow squash, Italian parsley, and thyme. R&M Bischoping will have bright zinnia bouquets, plus super skinny green beans, baby zucchini and summer squash, kale (red Russian and dinosaur), radishes, and cucumbers.

Lighthouse Gardens is bringing cheery sunflowers; cherry tomatoes; fresh garlic; garlic scapes; baby head lettuce bouquets; and mixed baby kale; as well as herb, vegetable, berry, and ornamental transplants; summer blooming perennials; and our potting soil, all certified organic.  Fellenz Family Farm will have certified organic lettuce baskets, fresh garlic, summer squash, cucumbers, garlic, kale, Swiss chard, kohlrabi (limited quantity), beets, and potted herbs.

Fisher Hill Farm is bringing the very first sweet corn of the season, plus beets, chard, scallions, onions, squash, cucumbers, carrots, potatoes, beans, radishes, garlic, lettuce, eggs, chicken, and Red Jacket juices. Honeyhill Farm is bringing certified organic super sweet onions, a variety of summer squash and zucchini, bunches of red and golden beets, parsley, and maybe just maybe a few cherry tomatoes, as well as pasture-raised chicken.  Organic Matters will have shelling, snow, and sugar snap peas; romaine, leaf, and buttercrunch lettuces; Tuscan and Red Russian kale; cucumbers; and zucchini, plus a limited amount of blueberries and black cap raspberries.

Lakestone Family Farm is bringing rainbow Swiss chard, lacinato and curly kale, sweet beets, bok choy, peas, tricolor string beans, fava beans, collards, eggs, whole chickens, and fresh cut chicken parts, all certified organic. Andy’s Specialty Garlic & Produce will have certified organic red leaf lettuce, carrots, beets, arugula, radishes, turnips, fresh garlic, kale, green cabbage, and pickling cucumbers. Buzz’s Garden is bringing the last of the sugar snap peas, celery, tri-colored baskets of snap beans, beets, carrots, lettuce, lime basil, scallions, eggplant, Tuscan and Siberian kale, red and black raspberries, and black currants.

K&S Bischoping will have gooseberries, red and black currants, blueberries and black raspberries. Lagoner Farms will have blueberries, raspberries, tart cherries, sweet cherries, apricots, sugar plums, and a limited supply of the first round of flaming fury peaches, as well as  broccoli, green and yellow beans, beets, cucumbers, zucchini, radish and turnips. Clearview Farm is bringing certified organic green garlic, cukes, zukes and patty pan squash, dry beans, kale medley, bok choy, scallions,  parsley, sweet marjoram, thyme, lemon basil,  lemon mint, buckwheat (for whole grain flour or garden cover crop) and free-range, organically-fed eggs.

Shannon Brook Farm will have certified organic, country-style pork ‘not-so-spare’ ribs for the grill.  Tripleberry Farm will have the first of the farm’s pesticide-free blueberries this week, plus berry jams and goat milk soap. Happy Hooves Organic Farm is bringing some free-range but small fresh chickens and Cornish hens, a variety of sizes and cuts of frozen chicken, eggs, 100% grass-fed and grass-finished beef, and pasture raised pork cuts of all sorts, all certified organic and soy free.

Dearhaven Farm is bringing cucumber, fennel bulb, garlic, black and red raspberries, sungold cherry tomatoes, sugar snap peas, cauliflower, lettuce, herbs, and zucchini. Bolton Farms will have a variety of leafy greens, including spinach, escarole, bibb lettuce, lettuce bouquets, arugula, spring mix, bok choi, basil, and Swiss chard. Allens Hill Farm is bringing fresh Indian game hens, meat rabbits, free range chicken eggs, pesto, thai and amethyst basil. Nordic Farm‘s jam of the week is strawberry blueberry, also made into jam bars, and will have fresh zucchini relish.

Wohlschegel’s Naples Maple Farm will have granulated maple sugar in robust, regular, sprinkles and pebble sizes, and will offer a recipe of the week.  Newbury Park Pastries will have chicken, veggie, panang, and pulled pork pot pies as well as quiche & tripleberry tarts. Eat Me Ice Cream is featuring a scoop each of chocolate cherry bomb & sour cherry creme fraiche ice cream on a homemade waffle cookie, vegan creamy peanut butter on a homemade waffle cookie dipped in Chocolate, and will have a few lavender goat cheese pints and lavender coconut pints.

JonJohn’s Bakery will offer blueberry muffins, cobbler, and pies and zucchini bread with walnuts and chocolate chips. Small World Food will have country multigrain bread, sauerkraut, kimchi, almond hazelnut macaroons, and the usual selection of granola. Biscotti for Everybotti is featuring new flavors on the table this week — vegan chocolate, gluten-free coconut and gluten-free ginger biscotti. Community Composting will offer sign-ups for home pick-up and delivery of compost.

We’re glad to have Cabbage & Baggage join us in the music tent. Representatives from Ellwanger Barry Nursery School will offer information about the school’s programs.

ColorBrightonGreen.org will collect recycling items; check here for items they are currently able to accept and recycle. The group is also looking for more volunteers to help with these collections; please consider helping this good cause.
