Winter Market

The summer Market runs through October 26, and the Brighton Winter Farmers’ Market opens the following week, November 2.  It will be held Sunday afternoons, 1 to 4 pm, at Brighton’s Brookside Center, 220 Idlewood Road.  There is a second entrance to the building just off of S. Winton Road, between Westfall and 590.  Many of the vendors from the summer market will offer product throughout the winter.

This Week at the Market – October 19

Put on an extra layer or two this Sunday, and warm up with us at the Brighton Farmers’ Market. Andy’s Specialty Garlic & Produce will have certified organic spinach, radishes, carrots, daikon radishes, kale, sweet potatoes, red and golden beets, acorn and butternut squashes, turnips, pie pumpkins, green and purple cabbage, garlic, arugula, and zucchini. Lighthouse Gardens will have certified organic rainbow cherry tomatoes; German white and Italian purple garlic; sweet onions; purple, ivory, orange and red sweet peppers; baby head lettuce bouquets; swiss chard; baby kale mix and new supergreens mix with over a dozen different greens for juicing, braising or a bold salad;  D’Avignon French breakfast and Easter Egg radishes; hakurei turnips; baby leeks; wheatgrass; sunflower and zinnia bouquets; hardy chrysanthemums; herb, berry and ornamental transplants; summer blooming perennials; and organic potting soil.

Clearview Farm will offer certified organic cilantro,  dill and other herbs;  winter pears;  ground cherries;  young mustard greens; Judy’s kale; leeks; garlic; eschallions; scallions; Munchnerbier radishes; Oasis white turnips; acorn squash; pie pumpkins; and free-range, organically-fed eggs.  Shady Lane Farm will have colored sweet peppers, jalapenos, Lanco edamame, purple Magic Molly potatoes and French fingerlings, onions, beets, garlic, leeks, assorted winter squash, sweet potatoes, pie pumpkins, parsley and mint, ornamental sorghum, autumn olive berries, and the last of this season’s fresh-cut flowers.

Organic Matters will have lettuces, winter squash and pumpkins, cabbage, garlic, tomatillos, sweet corn, mustard greens and collards. K&S Bischoping will have Honey Crisp, Jonagold, Gold Delicious, Idared, McIntosh, Macoun, Cortland, Empire, Crispin, and Fuji apples, and will add Esopus Spitzenburg, Roxbury Russet and Golden Russet to their large selection of heirloom apples. Bolton Farms is bringing spring mix, Boston Bibb lettuce, lettuce bouquets, arugula, watercress, kale, swiss chard, parsley, escarole, pea tendrils, micro greens and winter squash  (Butternut, Buttercup, Sweet Meat, Delicata, Mini Red Hubbard, Acorn).

Honeyhill Farm will have certified organic fresh baby ginger, carrots, red and golden beets, leeks, sweet onions, garlic, shallots, and frozen pasture raised chicken. Fellenz Family Farm is bringing beets, tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, tomatillos, ground cherries, winter squash (red kuri, delicate, and butternut), sweet and hot peppers, apples, potatoes, garlic, onions, shallots, eggs, celeriac, kohlrabi, rutabaga, Biana DiMaggio onions, leeks, and lettuce, all certified organic.  Allens Hill Farm is bringing free range chicken eggs, aquaponically grown basil, Dukkah gift packs, seven varieties of apple cider molasses granola, all natural oat and fruit bars, and all natural baking mixes.

Wohlschlegel’s Naples Maple Farm will have 100% pure maple syrup whipped into maple cream spread and shaped into soft molded sugar, and maple products in holiday glass. Lavender Moon is bringing a range of herbal products and flavored hot cocoa mixes. JonJohn’s Bakery is bringing hearty chicken vegetable soup with corn bread, apple cobbler, pumpkin spice muffins, sweet potato pie, and peanut butter balls.  Newbury Park Pastries will have chicken, shrimp panang, beef stew, Philly cheesesteak, and veggie pot pies along with seasonal pies & tarts.

Nordic Farm is featuring spiced pear jam and jam bars. Biscotti for Everybotti will have vegan ginger, vegan chocolate, and pumpkin biscotti made with pumpkin from Organic Matters. Tripleberry Farm is bringing pesticide-free jams, goat milk soaps, and peanut and pecan brittles. Eat Me Ice Cream will have pumpkin mania ice cream on ginger molasses cookies (dairy and vegan), the Hug Up — chocolate and vanilla on chocolate and vanilla cookies (dairy), roasted banana ice cream on chocolate cookies (dairy), and pumpkin custard pints. Bloomfield Honey Farm will join us, offering free honey straws.

Also at the Market

Music will be provided by Grant Cos and Babak Elahi. Representatives from Brighton Police Explorers will join us. ColorBrightonGreen.org will collect recycling items; check here for items they are currently able to accept and recycle. Please consider donating to the Brighton Food Cupboard, to support their efforts on behalf of the needy in our community.

SNAP Bonus Program

Don’t forget our EBT/SNAP bonus program. SNAP customers who purchase tokens with their EBT cards will receive a $2 Fresh Connect Check for each $5 in tokens purchased.  The checks can be used at the market just like cash for any EBT-eligible foods.

The Brighton Farmers’ Market is held every Sunday through October 26 from 9 am to 1 pm.  It is held in the Brighton High School parking lot, 1150 Winton Road S., and is sponsored by the Town of Brighton.
